Preview of the Next CTPC Meeting |
October 27, 2009 - 6:30 p.m. |
This month’s program is in two parts:
1. Linux. Curious about Linux but never wanted to take a chance on trying out a different operating system? Bill Hart, longtime Linux user and CTPC member will demonstrate how to run Linux on your computer using a "Live CD" that won't affect your normal Windows installation. He will show examples of two different Linux distributions.
2. Google Voice. Wouldn’t it be great to have your own personal phone number that finds you wherever you are – at home, at the office, on your cell phone, at your island villa? Google Voice offers that kind of solution – and more. Come see Google Voice in action as Walt Graham demonstrates primary Google Voice features such as call forwarding to multiple lines, enhanced voice mail that provides a single place to go for all your voice mail, text notifications and email notifications with both a recorded voice message and a speech-to-text transcript.
We’ll have our usual Random Access session – a chance to talk about what’s on your mind relating to computers and other digital gadgets and to ask questions that others in the group might be able to answer.
After the meeting we’ll adjourn to Uncle Joe’s Restaurant for pizza and refreshments.
